Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Vaani ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Vaani is a platform for live conversations and discussions. Users can participate in, watch, and record conversations on various topics using our patented turn-based conversation technology.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

• You must provide accurate and complete information
• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account
• You are responsible for maintaining account security

3.2 Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through Settings > Delete Account within the App. Account deletion is permanent and will remove your profile, conversations, comments, followers, and uploaded media. For more information, see our Account Deletion page.

3.3 Account Suspension and Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines, including immediate termination for severe violations.

4. User-Generated Content

4.1 Your Content

• You retain ownership of content you create
• You grant Vaani a license to display, distribute, and store your content
• You are responsible for your content and its compliance with these Terms

4.2 Zero Tolerance for Objectionable Content

Objectionable content includes, but is not limited to:

• Hate speech, discrimination, or content that promotes violence
• Harassment, bullying, or personal attacks
• Sexually explicit or pornographic material
• Content harmful to minors
• Spam, scams, or commercial solicitation
• Doxxing or sharing private information without consent
• Deliberately false or misleading information intended to cause harm

4.3 Content Reporting

If you encounter objectionable content or abusive users, you can report them using the in-app reporting feature available on debates, comments, and user profiles. You may also email moderation@vaani.us.

We review all reports and take action within 24 hours, which may include content removal, account suspension, or permanent banning.

4.4 User Blocking

You may block any user from their profile. Blocking a user will prevent their content from appearing in your feed and notify Vaani of the interaction for review. You can manage your blocked users list from Settings.

4.5 Content Moderation and Filtering

Vaani employs content filtering technology and community moderation tools to detect and prevent objectionable content. We reserve the right to remove any content and eject any user who provides objectionable content or engages in abusive behavior, at our sole discretion.

5. Conversation Participation

5.1 Live Conversations

• Conversations may be recorded and made available to other users
• By participating, you consent to being recorded
• You agree to respectful discourse as outlined in our Community Guidelines

5.2 Recording Consent

By using broadcasting features, you acknowledge that your audio and video may be recorded and shared.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for illegal purposes
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access
• Interfere with the service's operation
• Impersonate others
• Use automated systems without permission
• Circumvent content moderation or blocking features

7. Intellectual Property

• Vaani and its content are protected by intellectual property laws
• You may not copy, modify, or distribute our proprietary content
• User content remains the property of its creators

8. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services (Firebase, Agora, etc.). Your use is subject to their respective terms.

12. Dispute Resolution

12.1 Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States.

12.2 Arbitration

Disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration, except where prohibited by law.

13. Changes to Terms

We may modify these terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the version number and effective date at the top of this page and notify users through the App. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

14. User-Generated Proposals About Public Figures

Vaani hosts user-generated proposals for conversations, including campaigns (community-proposed vaanis between two named individuals) and challenges (public invitations from one user to another). These features allow users to express interest in seeing specific conversations happen.

14.1 Editorial, Not Endorsement

14.2 Your Responsibilities When Creating Proposals

When you create a campaign or challenge that names a real person, you agree that:

• The proposal is a good-faith invitation to a conversation, not harassment, defamation, or a vehicle for personal dispute
• Any facts you state in the proposal's description are accurate to the best of your knowledge
• You will not use these features to threaten, intimidate, or retaliate against any individual
• You will not impersonate the named individual or suggest that they have agreed to participate when they have not
• You understand that Vaani may remove the proposal at any time at its sole discretion

14.3 Publicly Available Information

To populate proposals, Vaani may display publicly available information such as names, public social media handles, and profile photos retrieved through public APIs (including the X/Twitter API). Displaying this information within a proposal does not transfer or grant any commercial rights in that information to Vaani or to users of the platform.

14.4 Opt-Out Rights for Named Individuals

Any individual named in a campaign, challenge, or other user-generated surface on Vaani — or their authorized representative — may request removal at any time via our Opt-Out page. We honor opt-out requests within:

• 24 hours for residents of California and New York
• 48 hours for all other requesters

On receipt of an opt-out request, we remove all existing proposals naming the subject and prevent future user-generated proposals from naming them. No legal demand is required to trigger this process.

14.5 Section 230 and Intellectual Property

Campaigns and challenges are user-generated content. Vaani acts as an interactive computer service under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. § 230) with respect to such content. Section 230's intellectual-property carve-out (§ 230(e)(2)) is acknowledged; for intellectual-property concerns, including right-of-publicity and copyright concerns, see our Opt-Out page and the takedown information below.

14.6 Copyright and DMCA

If you believe material on Vaani infringes your copyright, send a notice complying with 17 U.S.C. § 512(c) to dmca@vaani.us. Your notice must include the information required by the DMCA, including a statement made under penalty of perjury. We respond to valid notices within 7 business days.
